The Serious Stuff

Here's where we talk rules and regulations of Slow-pitch Softball in Canada.
Every rec league has its own version of "the rules" but we'll break it down for you.
Also, which softball bats are approved by NSA Canada.
Calgary Sport & Social Club Slo-Pitch Rules

NSA Canada has been around since 1997.
It has always followed the Bat Performance Factor Test - a bat testing procedure commonly known at BPF 1.20. Through the years this procedure, along with the bats allowed in softball leagues across Canada have evolved.

The first test, BPF 1.2 rounded down any softball bats that tested 1.205 and below.

The second development in the BPF test happened in 2004 and determined that no softball bats could exceed 1.20 - the ZERO was added then to the BPF 1.2 test and rounding down was no longer allowed.

The third development took effect January 1st, 2013 and was only a minor evolution. This time a softball bat could at no time during its life exceed BPF 1.20.
Since we know (or may not know, that's OK too) that composite bats have always had a "break-in period". After this breaking in period composite bats are known to become livelier. Which brings us to...

Today:
A softball bat is tested until it exceeds 1.20 to which it fails the test; or the bat is tested until it breaks - and if it breaks before it exceeds 1.20 it will pass the newest development of BPF 1.20 test.
