Slowpitch Tips

...so you know How Hard & When

Here's the thing about slowpitch: people drink beer while they play.
Meaning: it's not the most demanding activity you could choose to do.

I love softball.
Fastpitch is a thrill, but it's fast. With slowpitch softball you can relax into the pitch, wait for it to come and then...then you can unload.

Slowpitch Bat Tip:

If you want to get on base (which I think we all do), you should consider a BALANCED Slowpitch bat. Unless you have played women's fastball or are 200 lbs there isn't a real need for an End-Loaded bat.

Tips For Hitting in Slowpitch:

  • IF you are not the lead batter you can get away with watching the first few rounds of pitches.
  • Being able to use your hips is highly necessary when it comes to power-hitting in slowpitch softball.
  • Keep your eye on the ball (I know, I know); but watch it as it comes towards you and aim for the middle. Imagine yourself hitting the ball.
  • Power comes from the transfer of weight and you might want to keep your hands low if you feel you aren't hitting past your potential.

Learn to be Patient:

One of the more important things to remember about slowpitch is:
let the ball come to you.

When you are up at the plate:
1. Get comfortable - stand with your legs a little farther apart than you think and squat so you know you're balanced.
2. Grip the bat firmly but let your shoulders stay upright and relaxed.
3. Push your front toe into the pitch and lean into the swing with your hips; keeping your eye on the ball.

Slowpitch Batting Tips:

There are a lot of ways you can hit better in slowpitch softball but this is what I've learned from playing.
